2025 Thanksgiving Getaway Guide

Gratitude With a Side of Relaxation

If you've ever finished Thanksgiving feeling more tired than thankful, this is your sign to change things up. More families are swapping kitchen chaos for spending Thanksgiving somewhere new. It's a perfect time to slow down and be together without the stress of hosting. Plus, if you’re a parent whose kids have the entire week off from school, even better! I have many unique Thanksgiving destination ideas, but here are three, each with its own special vibe.

FOR BEACH LOVERS: Punta Mita, Mexico

Punta Mita is an easy trip from Los Angeles and is stunning. The tropical setting relaxes you the moment you check in. Families can do as much or as little as they want, and resorts like the Four Seasons offer excellent kids’ programs. If you love the beach and warm weather, want to try a surf lesson, or just relax by the pool with a book, I highly recommend a beach resort for Thanksgiving.

FOR SCENIC FALL FOLIAGE: Napa Valley, California

Late November is a magical time in Napa. Enjoy the fall colors, the small-town local shopping, and the food! Visit local farms and wineries, and take a cooking class. The Thanksgiving weekend unofficially kicks off the holiday season in Napa, so you might find some tree-lighting ceremonies and holiday markets.

FOR BEAUTIFUL MOUNTAINS: Park City, Utah

Park City is one of my favorite mountain towns. Families can go ice skating, explore Main Street, or join one of the holiday events that start that week. Resorts host Thanksgiving dinners that are festive yet laid-back. It's a quick, easy drive from Salt Lake City airport, and the crisp air makes it feel like the beginning of the festive season.

Celebrating Thanksgiving away from home isn't about skipping important traditions; it's about giving yourself space to enjoy them in whatever way works best for you and your family.
